Why This Page Exists
December, 2008
Why this page exists could be answered by stating the obvious: Because it can.
More seriously, this is about issues in the digital transformation across oceans and other international boundaries. And this means that you can post in English, French, Spanish or Italian–and if you use another language, then give us time to translate!
We have found in several decades of work in the digital world (yep, that’s right: We did some of the first VC deals in the 80’s) that the international aspects of the digital world keep jumping up–OR, as in the US (all too often), their absence is sorely noted. (This means that too many US CXO’s think that they can conquer the US or North America before addressing the rest of the world. Hah. And they are part of the digital world??)
So have at it. A few basic rules that can be summed up as follows:
- Do what your mother used to tell you to do: Show respect for others. Specifically, no ad hominem attacks (and if you do, we’ll send you to your room with no dessert).
- No overt politicking. We all have our political positions but ideological zealots of any stripe will not be welcomed (again, no dessert and you’ll be grounded).
- No overt sales pitches. Yes, of course, many of you post because you wish to develop business. Let the wisdom of your insights be the marketing message.
- Have fun! Just make sure that it is not at the expense of someone else’s feelings.
FULL DISCLOSURE: We may be digital pioneers but we are new at this complicated an approach to blogging. We have a bunch of connected blogs (and websites), which you can see in the links to the right. Sometimes, a post will be re-published in one of the other ones. Often, colleagues will post and reply to each other. These comments are not a reflection of corporate policy (as if we had any that were relevant) but of the individuals, with all their warts and their good qualities, too (we’ll have to think for a moment about those).
